Frequently asked questions

  1. What is coaching?

coaching is the art of being able to effectively show someone the fine line between being and becoming ‘someone’ versus being ‘something’. As an athlete, I experienced having a lost identity outside of football. Once I learned the difference between the two – the shift of my ability as an athlete had significantly increased, my confidence in and out of sport improved tremendously, and the clarity in who I am (being ‘someone’) allowed me to excel in being ‘something’. This progression transformed me to a high level of performance on the field and as an individual off the field.

  2. How long is the coaching process?

The full length training course is 4-8 weeks long. If you are scheduling twice a week, the course will last about four weeks. If you schedule weekly sessions, you will get through the full course in approximately eight weeks. Of course the learning curve of all individuals may vary so clients are subject to take as long as they need to fully comprehend and maximize the effectiveness of the course work. Any additional coaching is maintenance at the clients discretion post completion of the FA training course.

  3. When is the best time to start mindset training?

For athlete development - Immediately after your playing season so we can rebuild your habits fresh. The sooner you start after your season the more dominant you will be going into your next season.

For personal development - it is ideal to start if you’re in a rut, feel lost, are seeking purpose, or are on the cusps of a breakthrough that you can’t quite put your finger on.

  4. Why do people hire a coach?

The most common answer I have received and have personally experienced is that most athletes want to become dominant. others want to be heard and personally advised through their specific circumstances, Some come for character development, and Many often come in seeking to reach their peak physical performance which can only be reached by training their mental ability. The greatest tool and advantage an individual has is their mind. Performing at the highest level of self-capability is why people hire a coach.

  5. Can I work with a coach even if I’m not an athlete?

Absolutely. Mental strength training builds a mindset beneficial to any form of performance. Any set goal can be achieved through coaching and is not limited to just physical performance.

  6. Where do the coach and client first focus their efforts?

Understanding the client’s current values and beliefs. The coach will help the client break themselves down as they are currently. This allows the coaching process to adapt to the client with a personalized approach. Ultimately, a personalized approach will achieve the best mental performance practices specific to the individual which will maximize their physical performance.

  7. How soon can the client expect to see results?

Results are based around the client’s commitment level. The more committed clients are to the process, the faster they see results. I have seen fully bought-in and committed clients see results in as early as a couple weeks.

  8. Do you do physical training in the gym or on the field too?

As a personal coach, I support the athlete wherever I am needed. Specifically as a mental strength coach, I am positioned to challenge the client in any environment.

physical training or field work programming is not provided by FA but can be supported by a FA coach. this support will look very similar to personal training in motivational support, holding the athlete accountable through the workout and expanding the athletes mental strength.

  9. How Much Does It Cost?

Cost will vary by package selection. Please fill out an inquiry on the ‘contact’ page if you need help determining what rates package best fits your needs.

  10. Do you guarantee your coaching?

my coaching can go as far as the athlete allows. The client is the expert of the subject (themself). the coach is the expert in growing the subject (the client). The more honest and vulnerable the client is with themselves and the coach in training – the more effective the coaching – the greater the reward and results.

Ultimately, the effectiveness of coaching is up to the client’s willingness to learn and grow. With a desire to reach a goal, clients are not limited to any amount of growth of their improved mental ability as the return can be exponential. At bare minimum, FA guarantees the growth of greater understanding and perspective to any client with an open mind to mental training.

  11. How long do people work with a coach?

It is at the athlete’s discretion. Different learning curves and desired goals per individual makes the coaching vary. Some may elect to work with their mental strength coach for one session only whereas others are lifelong commits. Change is inevitable and we are ever evolving because of it. Mental strength training is very similar to physical strength training where individuals commit to the experience that best fits their needs.

  12. What if I begin coaching and suddenly realize it’s not working?

If the client is committed to the process, the coaching model FA follows does not allow for anyone to regress or stay stagnant during coaching as the emphasis of the training is very client driven and focused.

At worst, if the client deems the coaching to be ineffective, clients will not have to continue training. Mental strength coaching will not work with a client who is not wanting, willing, or able to take on the training.

If there are medical underlying reasons as to why the training may be ineffective, this may be outside of the trainer’s scope. The client may desire to consult with a medical professional in this scenario.

  13. How do I know if coaching is right for me?

Although this answer may not always be quantifiable, anyone who is ready to peak their performance, build their confidence, or develop understanding and perspective is right for coaching. Most clients will know after a few sessions of training if coaching is right for them.

  14. How long will my sessions be?

A standard 1-on-1 coaching session starts at a minimum of 60 minutes. Sessions can be stacked if the purchased package includes multiple sessions.

  15. Do you provide assessments and other types of testing?

There is no formal testing necessary for the mental strengthening services FA provides. However, there are several FA worksheets the coach will work through with the athlete. The client may even correlate these documents as a measure of success throughout the course of training. The forms will be referred to throughout the duration of coaching. Other forms will aid the trainings as necessary.

  16. I’m a busy person. How flexible are you?

Coaches will provide their availability through a client accessible scheduling app. The client will be able to schedule within time slots at their convenience.

  17. How is coaching different from consulting, therapy, sports coaching, or a best friend?

Consulting is a form of generating ideas and selecting best practices that typically lead to more revenue. Therapy can be explained as the exact opposite workflow of mental training as it focuses on healing from the past while simultaneously aiding the present while highlighting habit planning for the future. Coaching emphasizes establishing best mental habits for the future by enhancing mental disciplines in the present while referencing moments of the past. Sports coaching typically focuses on developing technical skills of the sport to the athlete. Most people turn to best friends for general life advice.

Mental strength coaching specifically focuses on developing mental disciplines that reframes the athlete’s true core values. This allows a high level of internal understanding and perspective within the client. This favors the athlete by empowering them to take full accountability of themselves in any given situation. This allows the client to redirect and take control of scenarios based on their redefined values rather than allowing a scenario to control them.

  18. Can a dependency be created between coach and client?

The premise of coaching is to create a sense of self-sufficiency and build the skill of autonomy within individuals. It is the coach’s intent to coach the ability to lean on and trust oneself when problem solving and critically thinking through a scenario. Coaching will also instill acknowledging the importance of recognizing when to utilize other perspectives when necessary so the individual does not lose sight of understanding and perspective of others.

  19. Can I hire a coach just for a short-term/special project?

Absolutely. FA provides unit/session based sessions as low as one session. We also do project specific services as well. Each project is deemed unique.

  20. How long must I commit if I start working with a coach?

The great thing about FA is that there is no long term commitments. You can sign up for as little as one session at a time.
